Preimplantation HLA determination using new generation sequencing (PGD-HLA-NGS)

In a large number of hereditary blood disorders and blood malignancies, bone marrow stem cell transplantation is the only treatment available. But unfortunately, many families and parents fail to find a transplant donor with the same HLA as the patient. In such cases, the birth of a "savior child" is the only available solution.

In this method, using next generation sequencing (NGS) technique, the HLA type is determined on single cells biopsied from embryos created using in vitro fertilization (IVF) methods, and in this way, it is possible to select healthy embryos with the same HLA as the person in need. There will be their transplant and transfer to the mother's womb. After the baby's birth, it will be possible to use the baby's umbilical cord blood stem cells as transplant tissue to the sick person in the family.

If the above procedure is suggested to you, our colleagues at Hope Generation Medical Institute Comprehensive Genetics Center are by your side step by step with expert genetic counseling and related laboratory procedures.
